On September 1, 2007, based on the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University, the Department of "Training of Information Systems" was established. Since September 1, 2016, due to the change in the direction of training related to the introduction of new training standards, the department has been renamed the Department of Information Technology. The current Department of Information Technology and Library Affairs was re-established on October 1, 2022, the program leader of the EP is senior lecturer K.A. Kalymova.
From 2007-2012, the first head of the department was Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Kerimbayev N.N.
From 2012-2016, the head of the department was a Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor Kozhamkulova Zh.Zh.
From 2016-2018, the head of the department was a Ph.D. doctor, Academician - Doszhanova A.A. Starting from 2018, this position was held by a Candidate of Technical Sciences, senior lecturer Turganbay K.E.
The department trains personnel in the following educational programs:
- 6B06102 - "Information systems";
- 6B06101 - "Design of digital analytical, educational systems";
- 7M06101-"Information systems";
- 6В03201 – “Library Science”.
Since 2016, the teaching staff of the department has been conducting the discipline of the general education cycle for 2nd-year students of all the University's EP "Information and Communication Technologies" in English.
Under the guidance of the teachers of the department, several student research works were carried out, the results of which were presented at conferences of young scientists of various levels (there are collections, certificates, and diplomas of winners or participants). Department teachers are constantly improving their level of qualification to contribute to the training of highly qualified specialists of a new generation with competitive knowledge, skills, and professional skills in various fields of activity in Kazakhstan and beyond public institutions.
Since 2012, students of the department have had the opportunity to study at other universities under the academic mobility program. For example, in the 2012-2013 academic year, students studied for one semester at the London Academy of Management and Sciences (the UK). In 2016, a Memorandum of cooperation was signed with the Lublin Polytechnic University.
On the basis of an agreement with the Mississippi Valley State University, the senior lecturer of the department Sabit Botakoz in the 2014-2015 academic year, while studying in the master degree, was trained in academic mobility in the United States and at the end of the 2015-2016 academic year she completed the full course of the double-degree education program and became the owner of diplomas two universities.
The scientific activity of the department is conducted following the annually approved plans in the form of fundamental and applied research works, as well as experimental developments. The research results of the department's teaching staff, represented by Turganbay K.E., Auelbekov O.A. and Kartbayev T.S., were presented at international conferences in countries far and near abroad.
Currently, the main goal of the department is to provide comprehensive and high-quality training of qualified, competitive specialists in the field of information and telecommunication technologies based on the formation and development of professional and personal qualities, skills, and abilities necessary for a future specialist in combination with the requirements of advanced innovative technologies.
