About the department
The Department of Library Science and Bibliography was first established in September 1956 as a library department at the Faculty of Language and Literature. His first year enrolled 25 people who studied for 4 years.
By the decision of the Scientific Council and the order of the directorate of the Institute, the Library Science and Bibliography section was created to teach the subjects of library science and bibliography.
At that time section of library science and bibliography was headed by AlibekDzhokebaevaDzhokebaeva (1956-1986) on a voluntary basis. The section employed 10 professional teachers from among librarians and bibliographers, 2 of them on - staff, 8 - out – of-state.
The main goal of the training program is to provide general scientific and methodological, special subjects in the training of future librarians, to conduct parallel practical and theoretical training, and to achieve a systematic approach to teaching subjects over the years.
In 1960, the Kazakh State Pedagogical Institute increased the admission for the 1st year of the full-time department from 25 people to 50. And in September 1961, on the basis of the library department, the library faculty was formed with the Department of Library Science and Bibliography. Then she separated on her own to the Department of Library Science and Bibliography. Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor AlipbekJokebayevichJokebayev was the first head of the Department of Library Science and Dean of the Library Faculty. And bibliography Department was headed by associate Professor Aitbaev Ermek Sahanovich.
Mission
The mission of the Department of Library Science and Bibliography is to contribute to the formation of human capital based on the best world practices. Training of intellectual leaders who broadcast innovative ideas.
International relations
DThe Department of Library Science and Bibliography maintains contact with the following institutions: Warsaw State University, Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology, Stuttgart Higher Special School-Higher School of Mass Media, Faculty of Information and Communication, St. Petersburg State Institute of Culture, Faculty of Library and Information, Kemerovo State Institute of Culture.
