About the department
The Department of Psychology was established in 1972 as an independent department at the Kazakh State Women's Teacher Training Institute (based on Order No. 150 of September 27, 1972, dated October 28, 1972).
- In the 2023-2024 academic year, the Department of Theoretical and Practical Psychology celebrates its 50th anniversary.
- At different times, the leaders of the Department of Psychology were scientists:
- From 1973 to 1976, the first head of the department was Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor E.S. Sufiev.
- From 1976 to 1989: Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Professor K.R. Rakhimbekov.
- From 1989 to 2017: Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor Kh.T. Sheryazdanova.
- From 2017 to 2019: Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Senior Lecturer Ermekbaeva L.K.
- From 2019 to 2021: PhD, Senior Lecturer A.Zh. Ayapbergenova. From this period, the position of the head of the department was renamed to the leader of educational programs.
- From 2021 to the present: Candidate of Psychological Sciences, PhD, leader of educational programs Topanova G.T.
The department actively conducts scientific research in the field of psychology, focusing on the study of psychological aspects of personality development at different stages of ontogenesis. These works contribute to a deep understanding of the processes of personality formation, enriching theoretical and practical approaches in psychology.

- 6B03103 – Clinical Psychology. A dual degree program in partnership with the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University.

The content of the educational programs meets the modern requirements of psychological and pedagogical science and practice.
According to the ranking of the best educational programs:
- 1st place - Educational program "Psychology" (Bachelor's degree), NPP "Atameken", 2023;
- 1st place - Educational program "Psychology" (Master's degree), NPP "Atameken", 2022;
- 5th place - Educational program "Pedagogy and Psychology" (Bachelor's degree), NAAR, 2023.
Special attention is given to the practical activities of the department's staff, who actively provide professional assistance and training within the framework of social-psychological republican and international projects.
Among such projects are:
- "Janym_org" - psychological assistance to teenagers and their parents (2020-2024, Topanova G.T., Gumyrzak A., Uakasova M.B., Abdramanova D.E.),
- "Mother’s home international foundation" (MHIF) - the international direction of the Kazakh public foundation "Ana үyi" (2024, Kuantkanova F.M., Baizdrahmanova A.K., Bagibaeva M.I.),
- "Mentor school-2025" - school reconciliation service (2022-2024, Baizdrahmanova A.K., Bagibaeva M.I.),
- "Baqytty otbasy" - social-psychological and legal assistance to large and inclusive families (2021-2022, Baizdrahmanova A.K., Bagibaeva M.I.),
- PF "Family Support Center ‘Januya’" - psychological work with aggressors in the family and prevention of aggressive, suicidal behavior among children and youth (2021, 2023-2024, Baizdrahmanova A.K.),
- "Adam.psy.platform" - practical tools for the professional activity of a teacher-career counselor (2022-2023, Aubakir A.S., Baizdrahmanova A.K., Bagibaeva M.I).
The faculty of the department are distinguished by high expertise, holding expert positions on the Unified Higher Education Platform and in the Center for Scientific and Technical Expertise. Their professionalism is also highlighted by participation as jury members in the "Best Pedagogical Psychologist" and "Festival of Pedagogical Ideas" contests, demonstrating their leading competencies in the field of pedagogy and psychology (Bapaeva M.K., Topanova G.T., Beisenova Zh.Zh., Baizdrahmanova A.K.).
In extreme situations for the country and during quarantines, the department's teachers conducted live broadcasts, online master classes, marathons, webinars for the psychological support of the population, as well as online consultations on the "Hotline" phones in collaboration with republican and international professional communities (Topanova G.T., Baizdrahmanova A.K., Ermekbaeva L.K., Bagibaeva M.I.).
Scientific and practical support, based on Memorandums, is organized across a wide range of institutions, including kindergartens, schools, colleges, developmental and crisis centers, boarding schools, medical institutions, units of the National Guard, the Military Institute, and the Academy of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as closed institutions and rehabilitation centers. Work is also conducted with emergency psychological services and family support centers.
The mission of the department:
is to prepare qualified pedagogical psychologists and clinical psychologists for the fields of education, healthcare, social, and legal sciences. The main areas of activity include mastering modern methods of psychological research and providing expert support.

- LLC "Corporate Health" – Consulting on commercial activities and management (Russia, Kazakhstan).
Achievements in Science:
Over the years, the department's team has been honored with state and departmental awards, prizes, and titles, including "Honored Worker of Kazakhstan", "Excellence in Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan", Ybrai Altynsarin award, "For merits in the development of science of Kazakhstan", "For valiant labor", as well as letters of appreciation and diplomas from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, gold and silver medals named after A. Baitursynov. The title of "Best Higher School Teacher" was awarded in 2005, 2014, and 2017 (Sheryazdanova Kh.T., Bapaeva M.K.).
Author certificates for textbooks, teaching aids, and electronic programs were obtained in 2021, 2022, and 2023 (Sheryazdanova Kh.T., Bapaeva M.K., Kasymova G.M, Topanova G.T.). The teachers have publications in international and republican ranking journals, regularly publishing in high-ranking publications, including Bapaeva M.K., Topanova G.T., Ermekbaeva L.K., Kasymova G.M., Utepbergenova Z.D., Tajibaev T.B., Bagibaeva M.I., Kulymbaeva A.K., Ayapbergenova A.Zh. and others.
Work with Students:
Under the guidance of the department's staff, large-scale events are held to strengthen the creative abilities of students. Teacher Aubakir A.S. together with the 2nd-year student of the "Psychology" specialty Tursyntai A. won 1st place in the creative contest "Ekі zhұldyz" in 2024. Students regularly undergo training and participate in international and republican subject olympiads.
In 2023, students and teachers of the department demonstrated outstanding achievements at various levels of competitions and olympiads. At the Republican Subject Olympiad in pedagogy and psychology in Aktau, the team took third place among fourteen (leader Bagybaeva M.I., Bapaeva M.K.). At the All-Russian Olympiad in psychology, first and second-year students of the "Pedagogy and Psychology" specialty won first and second places (leader Topanova G.T.). Under the guidance of senior lecturer Abdramanova D.E., students made a significant contribution to the department's success, taking second place in the university competition of innovative projects "Startup 2021".
The "Tomiris" project, aimed at developing cognitive abilities of preschoolers through "365 games and colors for every day", reflected the commitment to innovation in education.
Letters of appreciation are annually received by students and teachers from Military units and crisis centers, confirming the department's contribution to society.
Since 2019 and continuing to the present, students and teachers of the department participate in the social startup "Ana men bala" with the support of the Resource Center of the Public Fund "Ana үyi-Dom Mamy" Almaty. (Bagibaeva M.I., Kuantkanova F.M., Baizdrahmanova A.K.)
A scientific club for students "The cognitive psycho-emotional sphere of the personality" operates. (Kulymbaeva A.K, Uakasova M.B.,Amirbekova M.A.) 2023, 2024.
Volunteering:
The department participates in various programs and projects, including "Ana men bala", "16 Days Without Violence", "Happy Family", "Psychological Support for Divorced Women", "A Complex of Activities for the Improvement of Crisis Centers", "Prevention of Psycho-pedagogical and Social Neglect among Adolescents", "Psychological Assistance and Formation of Resilience", "Parasatty Ata-Ana", and "University of Parenting". These initiatives are aimed at supporting and developing the community, providing assistance to those in need, and strengthening social stability.
