G.QANAY: The Address is an important step towards a new Kazakhstan

  ALMATY. March 16. Press Center - the Chair of the Managing Board - Rector of Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University Gulmira Qanay commented on President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's State of the Nation Address of Kazakhstan in a bicameral legislature of Parliament.

  In his Address, the Head of State spoke about the upcoming political reforms and socio-economic development of the country.

  – «Today's Address is very important. It concerns more than one year's work, the scope is broad, and it is deep in content. We set high goals for ourselves. Together with you, we have set out to create a New Kazakhstan».

  These are the words of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, which emphasized the importance of today's Address. The main feature of today's Address is that the President has considered issues of concern to the people and made specific decisions.

  According to the new reforms, there will be 20 regions in Kazakhstan. Based on changes in the administrative-territorial structure, Semey has become the center of Abay Region, and Zhezkazgan has become the center of Ulytau Region. The current Almaty Region was divided into two parts: Almaty Region, with Kapchagai as its center, and Zhetysu Region, with Taldykorgan as its center. «I am ready to change the name of the city «Kapchagai» to «Kunayev» if the people show such an initiative,» – the President said.

  The reforms are a reflection of the broad views formed in our society. They promote democratization and ensure the stability and governance of the state. The current situation in the world is unprecedented in its tensions, harsh sanctions, and unpredictable consequences. The president said that deliberate steps are needed to restructure Kazakhstan's political development model and that our political system must constantly adapt to new realities.

  He noted that the media must have their vision of the processes taking place in Kazakhstan and the world and must be competitive and free. He emphasized that further democratization is impossible without independent and responsible media.

  The president offered to create a new state institution «Ulttyq quriltay». He said that this institution would be a link between the government and the people.

  In addition, today's Address highlights the need to ensure the stability of the national currency and the elimination of excessive bureaucracy at the systemic level.
