ALMATY. March 1. Press center – A scientist from QyzPU University has received a patent for an invention. A group of scientists, including doctor of biological sciences, professor Anar Kalieva, has developed a new method of obtaining essential oil from wormwood.
Zhanar Rakhimberdieva, a doctoral studies student in biology at QyzPU, and scientists from the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction Zhanna Karzhaubekova and Nadezhda Gemejiyeva were also involved in the research.
– There are 81 species of wormwood in Kazakhstan. One of them is the long wormwood. Scientifically it is called Artemisia porrecta Krasch ex Poljakov. The above-ground part of this plant contains such substances as essential oil, organic acids, steroids, alkaloids, catechins, coumarins, and carbon. The method of obtaining essential oils was carried out in the flowering phase of the above-ground part of the plant. The product was found to have antimicrobial activity in inflammatory respiratory tract diseases, – says Anar Kalieva.
The study also revealed the ability of the ingredients to reduce the temperature.
Scientists intend to put the invention into production in the future.
Doctor Anar Kalieva has been training biologists at the university for more than 32 years. Scientific activities of the scientist-teacher are of great importance in the formation of research and business competencies of future specialists.
Today, the professor continues her scientific work as the head of a research project funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
She has published 6 articles in the journals of the international database Web of Science and Scopus, and 15 articles in environmental, biological, and pedagogical series recommended by the Control Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Doctor Kalieva has also published 2 textbooks, 3 teaching aids, and 3 electronic textbooks.
