ALMATY. October 15. Press center – Parenting a child is an important task! Here are the four main styles of family parenting: authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each of them?
In an authoritative upbringing, the mother and father show both age-appropriate and developmental expectations and emotional support. With this parenting style, a strong bond is formed between parent and child, based on mutual respect and shared responsibility. As a rule, parents are the most important people that children look up to.
Authoritarian style is expressed by a low level of emotional perception of children and a high level of control. Communication of such parents with a child is more like a dictatorship. With this parenting style, children are expected to obey their parents unquestioningly, without any questions or explanations. All decisions are made only by parents, and children have no right to choose.
In a family where children are emotionally warm, and control over them is at a low level, a permissive parenting style reigns. There are practically no norms and rules with this style, today a parent can allow everything, and the next day it can be prohibited. With this parenting style, it’s hard for children to figure out what’s right. Such children grow up with the feeling that the whole world is for them. And if in the future they have to face difficulties in life, it is very painful for them.
With an uninvolved style, parents take little part in raising a child. Such parents are emotionally unavailable to their children, and communication between parent and child is limited. Parents may use this parenting style because of a lack of understanding of how to raise a child or because they believe it is right.
Each of the parenting styles described affects the child in a certain way. The most desirable parenting style is a respectful parenting style in which you will always be for your child.
