Special lecture by the Rector on «Leadership and professionalism of teachers»

  On February 22, Rector of University Qanay Gulmira Amirkhanovna held a special lecture on «Leadership and professionalism of teachers» for students of the course «Eurasian Community: Global Education and Leadership».

  In the conditions of modern Kazakh society, the issue of positive socialization and personal development becomes especially relevant, therefore, teacher’s leadership is one of the professionally important personal characteristics. Within the framework of an international project for students of the Institute of Social Sciences, Humanities and Art, the rector of the University Gulmira Amirkhanovna Qanay delivered a special lecture on the topic «Leadership and professionalism of teachers».

  During the lecture, such topical issues as the very concept of «teacher’s leadership», the possibilities of developing this ability among teachers at schools in Kazakhstan, strategic and purposeful actions to improve professional practice were touched upon. Based on many years of experience and the results of scientific research conducted by the rector on the topic of leadership and professional skills of teachers, vivid examples from real pedagogical practice were given, which stimulated a few discussions of the lecture participants.

  After a five-minute discussion among themselves, the students actively answered Gulmira Amirkhanovna’s questions, setting out their vision of leadership and professionalism of the teacher, shared with the difficulties they encountered during the practice of teaching in schools, discussed the issue of missing motivation of schoolchildren and the perception of the importance of their profession, their approaches, and methods of personal qualities development. In conclusion, the rector analyzed one of the examples of a properly developed teacher’s portfolio based on the video, which attracted the great interest of the present students of all courses, undergraduates, and teaching staff.

  Two hours of a special lecture were held in one breath, as a result of which the students realized the need to develop their leadership abilities, which is due to the expansion of the professional role of the teacher and the transformation of the educational process itself. After all, the success of the implementation of the professional activity of a teacher directly depends on building capacity in the practice of teaching by creating conditions for the development of leadership and professionalism.
