On September 20–21, the international tournament “Samurai World 2025” was held in Almaty, bringing together more than 1,500 athletes from various countries. The event became one of the largest sporting competitions of the year in the region.
At this prestigious championship, students of the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University (QyzPU) achieved outstanding results, winning top honors.
Lyuba Temnikova – in the under 49 kg category, became World Champion in both Grappling and Grappling Gi disciplines.
Kamila Amanbai – in the under 62 kg category, took 1st place in the Grappling discipline.
According to Lyuba Temnikova, her next goal is to compete in the World Championship in Greece, which will be held in a few months.
“Raising the flag of Kazakhstan is a special feeling that words cannot describe.
This victory is the reward for months of hard training. On the mat, I was fighting not only my opponents but also fatigue and self-doubt. I train an average of 4–5 hours a day — combining physical conditioning and technique. There were sessions when I trained through exhaustion and even injuries, but all of it led to this moment.
Huge credit goes to my coaches – Albert Aldiyarov and Rustam Ruslanovich. These victories are not just my achievement, but the result of their guidance and support. Now, all my focus is on preparing for the World Championship in Greece and raising our blue flag once again,” shared the champion.
She also emphasized how challenging it is to balance sports and academics, but noted that doing both has taught her discipline and responsibility.
“For me, both sports and education are important. Sometimes lectures and intense training sessions overlap, but I never complain — I know this is my path, my dream.
The university’s faculty is always supportive and understanding, and the discipline I’ve gained from sports helps me in my studies too. The encouragement from my friends, mentors, and fans is truly inspiring.
When you hear someone shout ‘Go, Lyuba!’ from the stands, you realize you're fighting not only for yourself, but for everyone who believes in you.”
The tournament was organized by the UWW Grappling Federation of Almaty with the support of the Almaty City Department of Sports. Competitions were held under the Samurai promotion rules in two disciplines: Gi and No Gi.
The international victories of QyzPU students are the result of years of hard training, the professionalism of their coaches, and the strong athletic traditions of the university. These achievements not only strengthen the university’s reputation in education and sports but also inspire a new generation of young women to reach for greatness.
