Situational Center for Student Dormitory Placement Opens in Almaty

    • Situational Center for Student Dormitory Placement Opens in Almaty

A Situational Center has been opened at the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University in Almaty, initiated by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Akimat of Almaty. The main objective of the center is to assist students in finding available spots in dormitories.

The center is located at 142 Bogenbai Batyr Street, within the university building, and spans 300 square meters. According to Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education, the new center will serve as a support hub for students who, for various reasons, were unable to secure dormitory accommodation.

“Each university has been provided with a digital platform, now operating in 80% of the country's higher education institutions. For example, at Narxoz and Satbayev University, students can independently choose a dorm room. However, if a student is unaware or didn’t manage to reserve a spot in time, they can contact the Situational Center based at the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University. In critical situations, we’ve also prepared 55 reserve rooms in cooperation with universities. Additionally, we’re negotiating with hostels,” the minister stated.

The center is equipped with 10 workstations, each outfitted with modern computers, communication tools, and access to digital databases. There are 10 telephone lines in the system, allowing simultaneous processing of student inquiries. The facility also features a briefing hall, a waiting area, a study corner, and a coffee zone.

According to the minister, in recent years, the government has significantly strengthened its efforts to address the shortage of student housing. Subsidy standards have been increased, and private contractors and investors have been engaged. As a result, more than 400 new dormitories have been built across the country over the past five years.

One such project is a new student dormitory complex in Almaty being developed by entrepreneur Bauyrzhan Karibzhanov.

“The building is four stories high, with 12 apartments on each floor. Each apartment has two bedrooms, each designed for four students. Inside, everything is provided: a modern kitchen, refrigerator, washing machine, shower, and bathroom. The building is equipped with a fire safety system and sensors. Special attention has been paid to safety. Move-in will begin on September 1, based on signed agreements,” the investor shared.

The launch of the Situational Center in Almaty marks another step in the comprehensive efforts to improve student living conditions and ensure accessible housing for young people pursuing higher education.
