Today, the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University officially presented its new Master’s program titled "Social and Gender Studies."
The main goal of the program is to advance research activities that improve the well-being of women and girls in Kazakhstan, while also preparing future specialists with in-depth knowledge of gender-related issues.
“This two-year master’s program focuses on gender equality, human rights, social justice, and empowerment of women and girls. The program was developed through the collaborative efforts of our university’s professors and international experts. We will continue our cooperation with global partners to enhance the quality of education and support positive societal change,” said Gulmira Qanay, Chair of the Board – Rector of the Kazakh National Women’s Teacher Training University.
During the event, a Q&A session was held, where participants discussed the structure and content of the program, career prospects, and international perspectives. UN Women National Expert Aizhan Salimzhanova joined the event online and emphasized the program’s relevance:
“The significance of this program lies in the preparation of highly qualified, interdisciplinary specialists capable of critically analyzing modern social and gender processes, developing strategies for achieving gender equality, social justice, and sustainable development, and effectively applying their knowledge in practice. I am confident that proposals from such experts will contribute meaningfully to our work. This initiative will undoubtedly open doors to deeper gender studies and meaningful research projects for our country,” she noted.
The program was initiated by QyzPU in partnership with the National Commission on Women and Family-Demographic Policy under the President of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Ministry of Culture and Information, and UN Women. The curriculum was co-developed by QyzPU faculty alongside Kazakhstani and international experts.
This Master’s program marks an important step toward enhancing gender policy in Kazakhstan, building academic capacity, and fostering a socially just society. The initiative is set to drive the development of gender studies and train professionals ready to tackle today’s challenges both nationally and globally.
