      ALMATY. February 3. Press center – At the beginning of the 2020/2021 academic year in the Republic of Kazakhstan there are 129 universities, including branches. 33 universities are state, 92 are private, 4 are foreign.

      According to the National Statistics Bureau of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms, the total number of students in universities is 576 557. The number of girls is 306 799 or 53.2%.

      This academic year, the number of students decreased by 4,6% compared to the previous academic year. In total, 152 789 people were admitted to study. 115 186 people were expelled from the university before the end of their studies for various reasons, the number of graduates – 153 627.

      83% of the total number of students study full-time, 7.6% – distance, 7.3% – part-time and 2% – evening.

      196,084 people study at the expense of state educational grants, which is 34% of the total number of students, 380,473 people or 66% study on a paid basis.

      The share of students studying in the state language was 64.9%, in Russian – 29,6% and in English – 5,5%.

      Qualified graduates amounted to 153,627 people, which is 8% (142,435 people) more than in the 2019/2020 academic year.

      The number of teaching staff is 36,307 people, including 6,137 part-time teachers. 8.1% of the total teaching staff have the degree of Doctor of Science, Candidate of Science – 31,7%, Professor – 6,3% and Associate Professor - 14.7%. The number of teachers with a master's degree – 13 067 people or 36%, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor of profile – 3 079 people or 8.5%.
