QyzPU hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Historical Memory and National Identity" within the framework of the "Nurpeisov Readings", organized by the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University and the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Ch.Ch. Valikhanov on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the famous historian and scientist, Academician Kenes Nurpeisov. The conference was attended by scientists, faculty, school teachers, doctoral students and master's students.
The main goal of the conference was to determine the invaluable contribution of Academician Kenes Nurpeisov to domestic historical science, analyze his work on the study of the Alash movement, as well as a comprehensive discussion of important issues in the history of Kazakhstan in the 20th century. Presentations and discussions were organized within the framework of the scientific meeting.
"Kenes Nurpeis experienced all the hardships that befell the Kazakh people at the beginning of the 20th century. Despite the difficulties, he reached high peaks in life. He wrote more than 20 monographs, more than 500 articles, prepared more than 30 candidates of science and more than 10 doctors of science. In his memoirs, he said: "Wherever I went, to Russia, to neighboring Tashkent, Omsk, Orenburg, I began to collect secret documents about Alash figures from all archives. When we gained independence, I joined the state commission for the rehabilitation of victims of political repression and immediately began to write works about the figures of the Alash party." Kenes Nurpeis was a man who gave light. He left us, future generations, an example of humanity," said Taldybek Nurpeis, a candidate of historical sciences and his relative.
The conference was held in several areas. The participants discussed current topics such as the problems of preserving national identity during the Soviet period, socio-political changes of the 1960s-1990s, the processes of Soviet modernization in Kazakhstan, as well as the development of education, science and culture. In addition, special attention was paid to the scientific heritage of Kenes Nurpeisov and his works on the study of the Alash movement.
"Kenes Nurpeis is an outstanding figure who has had a significant influence on the formation of historical science in Kazakhstan. In the late 1980s - early 1990s, fundamental changes began in historical science. Kenes Nurpeis wrote a large monograph entitled "Alash kham Alashorda". Thus, he made a significant contribution to the scientific restoration of the Alash movement," said Kazakhstani scientist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Alashologist Mambet Koigeldiev.
The presentation of the book "Kazakhstandagy 1931-1933 zhzh. zhappai asharshylyk" took place at the significant meeting. In addition, the conference participants were awarded the jubilee medal named after Kenes Nurpeisov, and 9 students and young scientists became holders of the scholarship named after the academician on the occasion of his 90th anniversary.
This meeting gave a new impetus to re-evaluate the scientific heritage of Kenes Nurpeisov, as well as to study historical memory and national identity.
