64 teachers from the strongest universities in Almaty received a unique opportunity to learn a new model of teacher education from their colleagues from the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University. The special project called KZEMP/DS-02 "Implementation of the software model and strengthening its content" is implemented thanks to the cooperation between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the World Bank, which have joined their efforts to modernise education in our country.

The consultants of this project are the best experts in the field of education: Häme University of Applied Sciences (NAMK), Finland, Autonomous Educational Organisation Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan and JAMK University of Applied Sciences, Finland.

Educators from SDU University, Abylai Khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages, Kazakh Academy of Sport and Tourism, Almaty Humanitarian Economic University and Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University participated in the unique training. Over the course of five days, they learnt how to become a teacher ready to scale and implement a new model of teacher education based on modern pedagogical approaches.

The speakers-trainers of the training were Yerkin Zhumankulova, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Gulzhan Orazaeva, Director of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology, and Maria Kabysheva, Head of Academic Programme Development Department. It should be noted that earlier they underwent special training and now they are among the 50 strongest trainers who work all over Kazakhstan.

"The new model of pedagogical education is aimed at improving the quality of education and the formation of students' key competences necessary for successful life and work in the modern world. We are happy to share our knowledge and experience with colleagues from other universities and help them implement the new model of teacher education in their universities," commented Yerkin Zhumankulova, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University.

The new model of teacher education includes the following key elements: focus on the student, application of modern pedagogical approaches and development of critical thinking and creativity.

The student is an active participant in the educational process, while the teacher acts as a facilitator, helping him/her to master knowledge and skills. The new model of teacher education uses such approaches as problem-based learning, project-based learning, cooperative learning and others. Special attention is paid to the development of critical thinking and creativity of students.

It should be noted that training on the new model of teacher education is being conducted throughout the country. It involves 1800 teachers from different universities of the country. Thus, the Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University contributes to the development of education in Kazakhstan and helps to improve the quality of training of future specialists.
