Meeting with participants of the December events

  ALMATY. October 29. Press center – In honor of the 30th anniversary of the country's sovereignty and the 35th anniversary of the December 1986 events, the «Independence Morning» event was held at the University. It was attended by participants of those events among Kazakh youth, who made the Soviet government shudder, they shared their experience with students.

  The event was opened by Zhanar Rysbekova, Vice-Rector of Strategic Development and Social Work of the University.  She read out a welcoming speech on behalf of the Chair of the Board – Rector of the University Gulmira Qanay.

  – This year marks the 30th anniversary of our long-awaited Independence. I congratulate on the common holiday our compatriots, who strive for the prosperity of our country during the anniversary! I wish everyone happiness, prosperity, and well-being at this time when our ancestors' dreams come true so that our descendants will not be lost. Let our noble activities not be in vain, – said she in the congratulatory letter.

  Chairman of the Public Association «December Events» Myrzagul Abdykulov, member of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan, writer Bolat Sharakhymbai, Deputy director of the newspaper «Kazakhstan Dauyry» Zhanbakyt Borantayev and other participants of the December events took a leading role at the meeting.

  – Kairat Ryskulbekov and I have been sentenced to death. However, my sentence was later carried forward by 20 years. When I was in prison, my mom Sulukas, my wife and my children have been through too much. My wife, named Kazynagul was arrested within three days that is why our future child died in the womb. Mom died, unable to withstand our grief. We lost our 12-year-old daughter, who died due to inadequate health care. I've been waiting for the death penalty for a whole year. But after our country gained independence, the sentence was reduced, and in the end I was released. The December events are the pinnacle of the spirit of the nation. The case of the December events will be studied in detail, a real assessment of those events will be given, and it will take its place in the history of our people. Dear students, you will witness of this event, – Myrzagul Abdikulov said.

  Bolat Sharakhymbai, Zhanbakyt Borantayev, Zharkynbike Suleimenova and Yerdaulet Berlibayev also spoke in detail about the significance of those events that became the beginning of Independence.

  – Kazakhs got independence at a hard price. We achieved this through the proud of Kazakh youth, who in that freezing December opposed the citizenship of the Soviet government. The feat of the participants of the December events, who bowed their heads before the freedom and Independence of Kazakhstan, will be revived from time to time in our memory, – the speakers noted.

  In the second part of the event, there was held a concert programme, prepared by art collectives and activists of the University.

  In particular, during the event, the winners of several international and republican competitions, such as the «Tomiris» dance ensemble, the student choir presented their new works to the public.
