    • Project Title: Investigation of the Electrocatalytic Properties of Composites and Nanocomposites for Hydrogen Production

      Project Objective: The objective of the project is the synthesis of perovskite-structured ferrites and manganites (LMO, LFO) exhibiting electrocatalytic properties for application in water electrolysis processes, as well as graphene-based nanocomposites.

      Project Tasks

      The project objective will be achieved through the following tasks:

      • Literature Review and Analysis

      Conduct a comprehensive analysis and review of publications by domestic and international researchers on electrocatalytic perovskite structures based on cost-effective lanthanides—nanomanganites, nanoferrites, and graphene oxide (GO)—used in water electrolysis processes.

      • Synthesis of Perovskite Nanomanganites and Nanoferrites

      Synthesize nanomanganites or nanoferrites with the composition:

      ABO₃ (LMO or LFO), where
      A = LaₓA₁₋ₓ (Sm, Ce),
      B = Mn, Fe,
      x = 0.1–0.9,

      using various synthesis methods and determine the most efficient preparation route.

      Implementation Method:
      Since the compositional accuracy and phase purity of perovskite-like manganite–ferrites strongly depend on the synthesis method, LMO and LFO nanocomposites will be prepared using several techniques (sol–gel method, solid-state synthesis, etc.) to identify the optimal approach.

      • Morphological and Structural Characterization

      Perform morphological and structural analysis of the synthesized perovskite manganites and ferrites.

      Implementation Method:
      After synthesis, phase analysis will be conducted using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to confirm the morphology, composition, and size characteristics of the synthesized perovskite-type nanomanganites and nanoferrites.

      • Synthesis of Graphene Oxide and Nanocomposites

      Synthesize graphene oxide (GO) and deposit perovskite-structured nanomanganites or nanoferrites onto its surface to obtain complex oxide nanocomposites of LMO/GO or LFO/GO structure.

      Implementation Method:
      Graphene oxide will be synthesized using a modified Hummers method. The perovskite–graphene nanocomposite (PNG) with LMO/GO or LFO/GO structure will be prepared using a hydrothermal (HT) method.

      • Investigation of Electrocatalytic Activity

      Study the electrocatalytic activity of the obtained LMO or LFO/GO nanocomposites in water electrolysis.

      Implementation Method:
      Electrocatalytic performance will be evaluated using electrochemical techniques, including:

      • Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV)
      • Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)
      • Cyclic voltammetry (CV)
      • Tafel slope analysis

      Hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) processes will be analyzed.

      Alignment with Strategic Documents

      The project is developed in accordance with Direction 4 (“Ecology of the Future”) of the national project “Zhasyl Kazakhstan” (Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 731 dated October 12, 2021).
