ALMATY. September 22. Press center – Second year of the pandemic. The virus that in 2020 made the whole world shudder and slow down is aggressively mutating. There is still no effective treatment and medicine.
Saken Koibakov, head of the department of the «City Pathological-anatomical Bureau No.4» of Almaty:
- The "Delta" variant that has reached Kazakhstan is spreading rapidly. This strain quickly charges the lungs. Lack of air causes many to die. The “Delta” variant does not divide people by age. Among those who died from the virus, there are both elderly and young people. When the autopsy is done, we see that the lungs have become hard, softness is lost. Blood clots appear in the lungs, which, as a result, do not fill with oxygen to be saturated. As of today, there is no exact treatment for coronavirus. We can only defeat it by getting vaccinated. For those who still do not believe that there is a virus: “By endangering your life, you endanger the lives of your loved ones».
Tamara Utaganova, deputy chief physician for the medical work of the I. Zhekenova Infectious Clinical Hospital:
- Vaccinated patients carry the virus very easily. And those who are not vaccinated get sick in severe form and end up in intensive care. Now many people are in intensive care.
Only in Almaty 4 waves of the disease passed. In the summer of 2020 and at the beginning of 2021, we overcame 2 waves associated with the “Wuhan” variant. In the spring of 2021, a wave was provoked by the «Alpha» variant. And on July 19, the most severe wave of infection, caused by the mutated «Delta» variant, began.
The "Delta" variant of the coronavirus is 2 times more infectious compared to the original version of SARS-COV-2.
In 2020, in Almaty 393 people have died, from January 1 to today, 1,597 people have died due to the coronavirus.
The ordinary life of people has drastically changed. COVID-19 has become a dangerous part of our reality. Only by developing collective immunity, we can stop the next waves of the virus. For this, approximately 75 percent of the city's residents must be vaccinated.
